AS Drama Performance Assessment this Friday – please support!

UVHS Drama Studio. 4:30pm Friday 3 February.

For the Component 1 assessment of the AS Drama and Theatre Studies Course, students need to perform an extract from a chosen play in the style of a renowned theatre practitioner to a selective and supportive audience. They also need to perform a role in the form of a monologue or duologue. This year’s students have chosen to perform ‘Metamorphosis’ by Steven Berkoff (adapted from the short story by Franz Kafka), adopting his stylised approach to theatre combining mime and movement with a highly mannered form of line delivery associated with Berkoff’s practice. After a performing an abridgment of the play, focussing on the theme of the parasitical nature of the poor protagonist’s family, there is a short interlude of comedy in the form of Moth and Maudie from Jim Cartwright’s famous play ‘Two’. The darkness descends as the performance is concluded with the duologue of Roy and Lesley from the same play.

Great concert with NYJO

A massive well done to the 8 students who played at QKS with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra on Friday night  –  Abi, Michael, Jacob, Jack, Jess, Bella, Sophie & Tabi.  Some great improvisations from them (Michael McCluskey  –  where did that stonking solo come from????) made an ageing music teacher, who wishes he was young enough to be playing in such events, VERY proud.  I am sure that everyone will also agree that listening to NYJO on their own was a truly memorable experience.

The only recording I could find from QKS/NYJO was this – it isn’t just nepotism!!  Copy and paste into your browser to see it.         https://twitter.com/QKS_Kendal

Next gig is a reduced Big Band at Water Yeat on Friday 17th Feb – doors open at 7.15 for a 7.45 start.  The band is:

Saxes – Bella, Dylan, Tabi, Sophie & Jess    Brass – David, Abi, Anna, Michael, Emma & Jack    Rhythm – Emily, Erin & Adam       Vox – Connor, Tabi, Emma & Bella

Chamber Choir @ BAE

The Chamber Choir were honoured to have been asked to perform at the naming ceremony for HMS Audacious at BAE on the 16th December.  With the Royal Marines as their backing band they gave a great performance of seasonal music as well as the the traditional Seafarer’s Hymn and National Anthem.Chamber Choir at BAE

Thank you!!!!!!

A huge thank you to all of the students and parents who helped with the bag-pack and music day. The ensembles were fantastic, delivering over  6 hours of continual music, and those who were on the tills and/or doors displayed great stamina (and, at times, self-control with fixed smiles!!!!!). We took £981 which, considering it has been a quiet Christmas at Booths so far, is an incredible amount.

THANK YOU!!!!!!

Help needed

If anyone is available at 4pm today at school (Year 10-13 students and/or parents), we are going to have to load the van with all the Wind Band equipment instead of tomorrow morning. Any help would be greatly welcomed!!!!

It’s Panto Time … (oh, no it’s not…)

Just a reminder that the brilliant 2016 UVHS Panto, The Three Little Pigs, is on Monday evening at The Coro.  It starts at 7pm and lasts about 45 minutes – entry is just £2 on the door (cabaret seating with bar facilities before and after).

Also a reminder to some of the Friends of UVHS Music that they volunteered to run the door on Monday and need to be at The Coro by 6.30pm.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

We are in desperate need of mince pies and a few good raffle prizes for Tuesday  –  can you help?????  Only 2 packets of pies are currently in the office – we probably need 60-70 packets – although we do have 3 good raffle prizes already.

Also, only 6 adults have so far volunteered to bag-pack on Saturday 17th December (there will be a few Year 13s filling in where needed, but we must have a majority of parents), where we would hope to be able to make enough money to complete the fundraising for the Wind Band tour.  Please email Mr B a.s.a.p. on rbu@uvhs.uk to volunteer a time slot – we need at least 6 ‘bodies’ each slot
