Royal Marines – Mountbatten Festival

The Royal Marines’ ‘Mountbatten Festival of Music’, which was staged at the Royal Albert Hall last month will be streamed tomorrow evening at 7.30pm on Youtube. I am told (by some of our former students who took part in it) that it is an absolutely brilliant concert, so – get a drink and some snack and settle down tomorrow evening to watch it!!

Summer Concert

The concert is CONFIRMED for Sunday 17th July @ 7pm in The Coro. Please put it in your diaries and invite as many friends, family & colleagues as possible to come along.

Junior Band, Swing Band & Wind Band will be performing. Entry will be on the door (Adults £6; students £2). Be prepared for a sing during the ‘Jubilee Finale’!

Revised concert dates

Following uncertainty (and then confirmation) of scheduled staff absence, we are now working to the concert dates below. Many apologies for the late notice of these but we have been trying to get groups ‘concert-ready’ whilst juggling other issues.

Friday 20th May – Chamber Concert @ UVHS (7pm) featuring all small instrumental ensembles (strings, clarinets, flutes, brass, saxes) and choir – not a long concert, no interval. FREE with raffle. Concert uniform for instrumental groups is pink band shirts (available to borrow from us) black bottoms and black shoes/socks. Choir in school uniform or band uniform (if in ensembles)

Friday 3rd June – Swing Band @ Lowick Green (2.30pm) – Jubilee picnic concert. FREE. Parents are welcome to bring chairs/blankets and picnic. Band uniform is Swing Band shirt (available from me/black shirt), black bottoms and black shoes/socks.

Saturday 18th June – Little Big Band @ The Old Friends – Another Fine Fest (7pm-9pm). FREE. Swing Band uniform for all.

Hopefully SUNDAY 17th July – Summer Concert @ The Coro (7pm-9pm) featuring Junior Band, Swing Band & Wind Band. Tickets on the door (price tbc)/unreserved seating & raffle. The change of day is due to the school’s sponsored walk now taking place on Monday 18th, which would not allow us time to rig the concert. However, we are still awaiting confirmation from The Coro. Junior Band in school uniform, Wind & Swing Bands in their own band uniforms.

The Keldwyth Award

Applications are now open for the annual Keldwyth Award – a prestigious performance competition for 16-22 year-old Cumbrians who are working beyond Grade 8 standard on their instrument or voice – application details are below (and also on their website). However, they also distribute grants to young musicians throughout the county as well, so if you are serious about your music education and need help to upgrade your instrument or pay for lessons have a look at the website:
