Congratulations to everyone involved in last week’s production of ‘Hairspray’. I must say that it is probably the most enjoyable musical I have ever had the fortune to musically direct at The Vic. All the students were absolutely amazing – both myself and Mr Vogler are so proud of everyone involved.
Wind Band Tour – every student should have brought home the Health & Safety form that must be filled in and returned before the end of April.
Wind Band Tour – a reminder that ALL balances must be fully paid by 1st May. If you are unsure about how much you still owe just ask Mr Butler who has the up-to-date accounts.
Swing Band – unfortunately we will have to cancel this Friday’s rehearsal (due to staff exhaustion!). There is concert on Saturday 27th April at Holker (7.30pm) so, due to bank holidays, there will be rehearsals on Thursday 18th (excluding yr12/13s who are teaching) and the usual Friday 26th April. This is to make sure that some of the newer pieces re ready.
A Level Recitals – due to numbers and feasibility we are having to squeeze quite a few recitals into afternoons, but there will be a public session on Wednesday 17th April from 6pm – 7.45pm in the Main Hall for 5 or 6 students. Everyone is welcome to attend to support our senior students.
This year’s Summer Concert will be on Monday 8th July and will include the following groups:
A reminder that Wind Band is on after school today and will finish at 5.15pm. Everyone going to Italy must attend as we are giving out all the ‘personal details ‘ and passport paperwork for parents to fill in.
Over the last 2 days, the massed band of the Royal Marines has performed 3 absolutely amazing concerts at the Royal Albert Hall – the Scotland Band was part of it (and 3 of our former students), and those of you who played with them 2 weeks ago will recognise many faces.
If you are interested in a career with them (or just enjoyed our concert) watch this!!!!!!!! It is the livestream they put online last night – it really is a stunning spectacular:
Please share this link to the Evening Mail article about “Hairspray” on social media and promote it as much as possible. Tickets are going very well for Friday but we could do with selling more for Saturday…
We return to the original schedule!!!!! Although the Tuesday rehearsal clashes with the Brewery Dance Platform, UVHS is hosting ‘Top Of The Form’ on Wednesday afternoon so we are not able to have an after-school rehearsal.
The definitive (!!) schedule is below – please note the change to Sunday’s timings for some students
Sunday 17th March:
9am-10am: all dancers 9am-10am (Gym).
10am-2pm: whole cast and band (Main Hall). In costume. Bring some food and a drink.
Monday 18th March: 3.30pm-5.15pm (Main Hall). In costume.
Tuesday 19th March: 3.30pm-5.15pm (Main Hall). In costume.
Thursday 21st March: 12.35pm-7pm (@ Coronation Hall). We will walk down all yr7-10s at 12.35. All need costumes and packed lunch.
On Friday & Saturday, cast will need to be at The Coro at 6.30pm in order to get make-up and costumes on. Band need to be there by 7.15pm.
If anyone can donate any raffle prizes we would be very grateful!!!!! Also need 2 or 3 volunteers to run the raffle each night.
The next 2 Wind Band rehearsals are cancelled due to the school production of ‘Hairspray!’ (which I hope everyone has bought tickets to come and see – we will also need 3 or 4 volunteers to run the raffle and sell programmes on each of the 2 nights).
There WILL be a Wind Band rehearsal on the last Monday of term (25th March) which will go on until 5.15pm, allowing us to continue going through the remainder of the concert programmme for the Italy tour nd the Summer Concert on 8th July.
Attached is an application form for students to go on work experience with the Marines in Portsmouth. The dates in May are the Mon-Thurs of half term, and similarly in Autumn (October half term Mon-Thurs, although the dates on the form are the 2018 ones, just circle ‘autumn’ on the form).
Students MUST be 15 yrs old or older
Places get filled VERY quickly, so if students are interested (not Yr11/13 for May, obviously), please fill in the form and return it asap (email is best) to:
