This is the last call for anyone wishing to go up to Rosyth on the 11th-13th February as guests of the Royal Marines to see what life is like working in the Band Service.
Students must be at least 15 years old by Mon 11th Feb and Grade 5+ on their instrument (including voice and guitar). The Marines will pay for return train tickets from Ulverston and all board at HMS Caledonia
Completed forms (below) MUST be with me by lunchtime tomorrow (Tuesday)
The Marines have just contacted me to say they have some places available for a 3-day work experience placement with the Scotland Band in Rosyth during half term – 12th-14th Feb. This is a new type of visit they are running as, up to now, these have always been 4-day visits to Portsmouth, and is likely to include a lot more playing.
Attached is the form that gives more info – students MUST be 15 years old or above and be playing at the equivalent of at least grade 5 standard.
Should anyone wish to go, please fill in the forms and then get them to me as soon as possible – I will send them off together as we always get preferential treatment, and seats on the train will be together: all tickets are sorted out by the Navy.
Alternatively, we will be offering the May half-term work experience in Portsmouth (28th-31st May) to the Year 10 GCSE Music class and any Year 12 students of the required standard.
PS – we are currently negotiating dates for the next visit to Ulverston by the Scotland Band.
There is no Wind Band rehearsal tomorrow (Tuesday).
ALL other rehearsals are running as normal both at lunchtimes and after school, including Swing Band on Friday.
A reminder that the deposit payment for the Italy tour is due by Friday – it should be on your Parentpay account (if not please let me know and I will sort it out).
If you cannot get the deposit paid by Friday but DO want to go on the tour, it is not the end of the world. Please email me so that I can still see how many students are going and what the balance of the band is.
Two notices for Swing Band:
The Combo were excellent at The Netherwood Hotel on 19th Dec!!!!!!
A huge thank you to Year 12 and Year 13 students for performing at Booths for 3 hours on 22nd December and raising almost £300. A brilliant effort and also fantastic initiative from Francis for organising it all.
It is this kind of selflessness and commitment which makes UVHS such a special place to work for myself and Mrs H!!!
