Christmas Festival – tickets (pre-sale)

Christmas Festival

This year’s Christmas Festival will be on Wednesday 14th December at The Coro, starting at 7.30pm (although Junior Band will be playing from 7.05pm). All of our music groups are already working hard on the programme, and I must say it promises to follow our pre-Covid tradition of spectacular seasonal productions.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday 31st October, but families of performers will get the opportunity of advance online purchase (as we are expecting a sell-out audience) on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th. I will publish details here, including a password to access the pre-sale, on Thursday 27th October, as well as the official poster for the event – we would be very grateful if you could upload the poster to your social media sites in order to publicise the concert as widely as possible.

Wind Band Tour – 2023

Many thanks to all of you who have paid your deposits/indicated your intent.

The tour is on!!!!!

Further details to follow. If any students still want to go but have not signed up, it is not too late (if it is not on your ParentPay account then see Mr Butler and that can be arranged).

‘Friends’ meeting last night

Many thanks to those parents (and a grandparent!) who attended the ‘Friends’ meeting yesterday evening. This was the first meeting in almost 2 years and it was great to be able to update our stakeholders on the current situation of Music in the school as well as discuss not only next year’s proposed tour to France, but also future tours.

More details of the meeting will follow shortly, but the main element is that in order to secure concert tours in future years we need to set a fundraising target (which excludes the main concerts) for the rest of this academic year – with that in mind we will launch a busking competition between the ensembles (and any other groups that may wish to form) on the run up to Christmas. As said, details about the target and the reasons for it will be published in a few days, so that everyone has an understanding of participation and expenses.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 15th November at 6pm – if you have any ideas for fundraising, especially ones that do not require any financial input from parents but involves businesses and/or the general public please come along and share them.

Reminders!!!

Friends of UVHS Music – meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6pm in school (all welcome).

Wind Band Tour – deadline for deposits THIS Friday. If your child’s ParentPay account is not showing it please let me know asap and/or send a cheque in to me along with the form on the tour letter.

Friends of UVHS Music – meeting

The first ‘Friends of UVHS Music’ meeting of the year (indeed, the first since Jan 2020!) will be held on Tuesday 11th October at 6pm in the Meeting Room at school (in A Block). As well as looking at the accounts we will be discussing the proposed Wind Band concert tour to France, the upcoming concerts this term and the Marines visit in Feb, current instrumental provision in school and the development of provision for primary schools.

All parents are welcome to attend – there are no ‘responsibilities’ to take on (other than finance, which Jan Heffernan has kindly volunteered to take over, following Andrew Cloherty’s very long stint as treasurer – for which we are eternally grateful) but it is a chance to have a say in how we can move forward, discuss fundraising ideas and also help organise concerts (as well as have a general catch-up!).
