Tickets are now on sale for the Summer Concert on Sunday 17th July @ 7pm in the Coronation Hall (£6 adult / £2 children/students). The concert will feature the Junior Band, Swing Band, Chamber Choir and Wind Band (who will also perform a ‘Jubilee Finale’).

Students can come to the Music Office to buy them, or they can be ordered by emailing rbu@uvhs.uk (where tickets can be left at school reception for collection). Alternatively, tickets will also be available on the door.

Please ‘spread the word’ as far and wide as possible amongst friends, family, colleagues and social media (feel free to us the poster below).

Dear All – I fully realise that years 11 & 13 are still in their exam season and fully justified in missing rehearsals until next week, but this evening’s Wind Band rehearsal saw a lot of absence from other year groups leading to just a half-strength band (who played brilliantly!). Most of the absent students were actually in school today and, although they may have had a good reason for missing the rehearsal, only one student actually came to tell me.

We have a big concert in less than 4 weeks and, even though the quality of the band has developed beyond belief, I have not had an actual full band in rehearsal since Christmas. I am also in the process of planning a concert tour to Holland in July 2023 for the Wind Band, but cannot do this if some are going to see rehearsals as optional.

Please, please, please get to rehearsals over the final 3 weeks.

Swing Band rehearsal is NOT on tonight (the band was told this last week)

Wind Band (until 4.45pm), Combo (until 5.45pm) and Swing Band (until 4.30pm) are all on next week.

This evening’s Combo rehearsal is cancelled due to exam pressure (and on students, and the gig at The Old Friends on Sat 18th is also cancelled for the same reason.

Fantastic effort from everyone today – well done & thank you. A great crowd and all very appreciative. Hope all the students enjoyed it and that all the families who came to watch had a good afternoon.

It is essential that we have FULL attendance at tomorrow afternoon’s Swing Band rehearsal in order to prepare for next Friday’s gig – details below. I expect everyone at the rehearsal!

A huge ‘WELL DONE!’ to all the students who performed in yesterday evening’s Chamber Concert. It was so fantastic to see a return to public performances following the last 28 months. It was a great opportunity to start getting back into performing and you all did the school proud.

Also … a huge ‘THANK YOU’ to all the family & friends who came to support the concert – it was brilliant to have an audience again, and such an appreciative one at that! We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

The concert is THIS Friday!!

Concert dress is:

Instrumental ensembles: Wind Band shirts (available to borrow from me); black trousers/skirts; black shoes & socks

Choir: School uniform without jumpers unless they are in an ensemble (sixth form – same as instrumental ensembles)

• ALL performers, arrive by 6.45pm;
• Instrument cases in Stoller Suite – quick warm-up;
• All performers will watch & support the other groups, so will need instruments & music with them in the hall when they are audience;
• Students will simply come out to the stage space when their group is performing.

The concert should not last more than an hour – entry is free, so please encourage as many people to come and support us as possible.
