Marines – Dance Band Social 25th April

The time has come!!!!

Tickets are now on sale for the UVHS Swing Band/Marines Dance Band social evening at The Coro on Friday 25th April. They are only available from the Performing Arts office and are priced at £10 each (which include a pie’n’peas supper courtesy of Del.ish in Barrow). Swing Band players do NOT need a ticket as they are performing.

ALL students must be accompanied by an adult if they are attending the evening due to licensing regulations, but there is no limit on the number of tickets one family can buy – feel free to bring family/friends; this will not be a publicised event.

Cash or cheques payable to ‘Friends of UVHS Music’ please. Numbers are restricted so don’t miss out on what is always a brilliant evening.

Royal Marines Work Experience

If any yr10-13 music students (who are playing at the equivalent standard of grade 5 or above) wish to join one of the fantastic Work Experience weeks with the Royal Marines Band Service (held over half-term holidays), please print off the attached information and application form. I can provide a Word Dox version if preferred – please email rbu@uvhs.uk .

Any student interested needs to fill in the form as soon as possible and send it to the email address supplied – as said, this is a brilliant opportunity!!!

Pit Band for Production

Sorry for the very late notice, but this evening’s scheduled rehearsal for the Pit Band for the school production is cancelled. Please could everyone try to make tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon instead?? 3.30-4.35pm

Happy New Year

Another New Year and lots to look forward to!!! Royal Marines’ weekend, Swing Band gigs, the school production of ‘The Boy Friend’ and the concert tout to Italy to name but a few….

Rehearsals get back under way straight away from Tomorrow. As the Wind Band and Flings are touring in July attendance is vitally important for all respective students.

The up-to-date rehearsal schedule will come out tomorrow, but Flute Choir and Saxy Brass are at lunchtime (starting prep for GCSE exams – so all yr11s MUST be there – as well as the Chamber Concert in May). Wind Band is after school until 5pm.

Rehearsals this sweek

It is ESSENTIAL that ALL members of the Brass/Sax ensemble, Flings and Senior Flute Choir attend their respective lunchtime rehearsals this week (12.55-1.25pm): especially Senior Flutes.

Tomorrow’s Wind Band rehearsal will finish at 5.15pm as we have to pack all the equipment for Wednesday and load the van once we have finished playing.

Christmas Festival – raffle request

If anyone is able to donate a prize for Wednesday’s raffle please could it be sent in to the Music Dept by Wednesday morning? The raffle is traditionally very successful at the Christmas Festival and provides us with much-needed funds. If we have too many items we will save some for the Marines’ concert.

Dickensian Festival

We are saddened to have to take the decision to cancel the Swing Band and Little Big Band’s performances at Dickensian tomorrow. Our priority is the welfare of our students, and the weather forecasts for Storm Bert (or ‘Berti’ as the band is now calling it) are, if anything, deteriorating.

We will try to get the bands to perform at The Cross on the run up to Christmas so that everyone can enjoy what we have been working on.
