Dates for your Diary

We are beginning to put some concert dates into the diary (and also look at some weeks where other performances might go). It’s nothing like the number of performances we used to put on before Covid, but it’s a start, so please put the following dates in your diary, or where there is not a specific date be aware of what we are planning. We are also hoping to get the Marines back later this year.

TBC 2nd half of March (Fri or Sat evening) – Little Big Band @ Greenodd Village Hall

TBC – Thursday 28th April – Chamber Concert @ UVHS (7pm) featuring all small ensembles (strings, clarinets, flutes, brass, saxes), choir and Little Big Band

Friday 3rd June – Swing Band @ Lowick Green – Jubilee picnic concert (afternoon)

Saturday 18th June – Little Big Band @ The Old Friends – Another Fine Fest (8pm-10pm)

Monday 18th July – Summer Concert @ The Coro (7.30pm) featuring Junior Band, Swing Band & Wind Band

Wednesday 14th December – Christmas Festival @ The Coro

Wed 22nd – Sat 25th March 2023 – School Production @ The Coro

Swing Band

Unfortunately I have to cancel tomorrow evening’s rehearsal due to transport issues. Really sorry about this as the band has been making superb progress since Christmas.

Happy New Year!!

Welcome back to school everyone – and what a way to start!!! Swing Band on Friday started work on a vocal set featuring Caitlin, our new singer, and this evening’s Wind Band rehearsal was great. Most of the band had to sight-read throughout the rehearsal preparing a new concert programme for later this year, including celebrating the Queen’s platinum jubilee with William Walton’s Crown Imperial which was originally composed for the coronation of George VI but then played again for Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953 (it also featured at Prince William’s wedding in 2011). Other pieces we will be rehearsing this term include 633 Squadron, The Blues Brothers Revue, Music, Fanfare for a New Horizon & You Can’t Stop The Beat, to name but a few.

Some ensembles are also getting under way this week (Clarinet Choir was awesome this lunchtime), but there are some cancellations due to yr13 mocks – yr11 mocks next week may also disrupt some lunchtimes – so GOOD LUCK to all our GCSE and A Level students.

So, HAPPY NEW YEAR to one and all, and here’s to some live concerts in a few months.

Mince Pies & Raffle Prizes

Many thanks to those families who had already sent in mince pies and/or raffle prizes for the Christmas Festival. If you would like to reclaim them please send your child to my office – any mince pies not reclaimed will be donated to a local care home (as we usually do with spares after the Festival) and any raffle prizes not reclaimed will be used at our next concert.
