Bed needed for Kennet visit!!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am having to change one of the host families for the Kennet Band visit.  I now urgently need a bed for a Year 10 female student (sax player).  If any UVHS Band player’s family (Year 9, 10 or 11 – doesn’t have to be a sax player) can accommodate her please email me asap  –  I would like to get details out to all host families tomorrow.

Follow The Bands This Weekend

This weekend, both the Big Band and Swing Band are out and about giving everyone a chance to hear some top-quality music from our brilliant students.

Saturday 20th  –  BIG BAND @ The Old Friends (Sautergate) from 20:15 – 22:00 (in the beer garden marquee)

Sunday 21st – SWING BAND @ Grange Bandstand from 14:00 – 16:00

Both events are FREE.  Please publicise them amongst friends & colleagues and on social media – it would be great to have big audiences to play to!

Friends of UVHS Music

There will be a meeting of Friends of UVHS Music at 6.30pm on Tuesday 9th June in the small dining room at school.

Band for Holker Garden Festival

A reminder that the REDUCED Swing Band is playing at Holker Hall tomorrow, performing at 12.00 and 2pm in the covered bandstand area.

Those students playing know who they are and received a letter last week with all the arrangements.  We are taking 7 saxes, 3 trumpets, 2 trombones, drum, bass and piano.

Please make sure you are wearing full swing band uniform (with t-shirt underneath for warmth if necessary), and bring a waterproof for when we are not playing.

Swing Band @ Millom

Yet another brilliant concert from the Swing Band at Millom Palladium on Friday night. We brought the (packed) house down!!  Some phenomenal individual vocal and instrumental performances as well as an extremely high quality of ensemble playing.

Special congratulations to Alex Nicklin, Francis Smith-Ward and Emily Glass who all made their debuts, and had to sight-read about 75% of the programme!!!!

Next Swing Band gig is at Grange on Sunday 21st June @ 2pm, but the Combo has three engagements before then:

Friday 29th May  –  Holker Garden Festival (12.00 & 2pm)

Saturday 20th June  –  Private Party at Newlands (6.30pm)

Saturday 20th June  –  The Old Friends (8pm – 10.00pm)

Vic’s Got Talent

VGT 2015 FinalistsPlease try to support what promises to be a fantastic evening’s entertainment – supported by Friends of UVHS Music and The Mysterious Ulverston Curry Club.  Our top two guitar bands will also be playing as support – Wasted Saints and Blue Shift.

Tickets available from the annexe at break, to reserve from reception or on the door.

Swing Band @ Holker

Brilliant concert last night from the Swing Band at Lower Holker Village Hall.  A sell-out audience created a fantastic atmosphere in which all students excelled!  Some amazing numbers from the band and the vocalists (Libbi, Ben and Florrie were superb) as well as some great improvised solos from Ben, Harry and Dan.  Congratulations also to Adam on drums, for playing so well in new numbers for him, and Maciek on violin who sight-read almost the entire concert of 26 numbers.

The fact that they have already booked two engagements from us next year speaks volumes about how well everyone performed  –  if you haven’t heard the band yet this year, get along to one of our gigs over the last few months of this year!!! (see the calendar above)

Summer Events

Summer 2015 Wind Band letter

Please find attached the letter that went out to Wind Band today. It has a lot of information about all the concerts this term (although the Chamber Concert might be brought forward a week) – please read it carefully if your little cherub has not brought it home!!!

More importantly, we desperately need accommodation for students in the Kennet School Band when they visit us in July. Please return the slip as soon as possible if you can help.
