Swing Band were brilliant at Grange this afternoon!!!! The last ‘full band’ performance of the year saw the band play brilliantly and some great vocal performances from Florrie and Connor in their last full concert with the Swing Band, as well as Emma and Tabi in support.
I can only praise the Band so much, but I must say that it has been both an honour and a pleasure to be able to work with a group of such talent, commitment and enthusiasm. It is always sad to do the ‘last concert’ with any of the groups, but I must admit to feeling a lump in my throat during the encores.
So … thank you for making an ageing, balding and, let’s face it, fairly boring teacher a very, very happy man!!!
We took an amazing £445 in the collection, on top of the £100 fee – sums up what the audience felt about our performance!!!!!!!
(we are playing next Sat morning in town, but a lot of student are missing – if anyone knows of a trumpeter or two who could help us out please let me know)
This letter was given out at Tuesday’s rehearsal – EVERY student going on tour must record all the dates (extra rehearsals and the compulsory information evening). for those not on tour there is only one additional rehearsal on Mon 10th July prior to the Summer Concert on 11th July.
Brass Ensemble is playing at Lower School Prizegiving at The Coro next Wednesday. I MUST know if anyone cannot play:
Wind Band Uniform
Meet by 5.45pm in dressing rooms
Ready to play by 5.50pm
Finish at 6.30pm – quietly leave stage, pack up instrument and leave Coro via stage door.
Tomorrow’s Swing Band rehearsal is cancelled so that the Combo/little big band can have another rehearsal prior to their gig at The Old Friends on Saturday.
There WILL be a full rehearsal next Friday to prepare for Grange:
Sun 25th – Grange Bandstand (2pm-4pm). Meet by 1.30pm.
If raining, indoor venue will be used
Friday 30th June is a Wind Band rehearsal for EVERYONE going on tour
Please find all the dates and times of rehearsals & gigs between now and the end of the year here:
Please, please, please … due to the current security situation, we urgently need 2 or 3 adults to man the door tomorrow night at the Marines Social (on a rota, so you can still enjoy the evening). There will also be a couple of sixth-formers helping. Those who can help need to be at The Coro by 6.45pm so that we can check everyone has a ticket.
If you are willing to help please email me at rbu@uvhs.uk . If you have a ticket already I will happily refund the cost of it – if you don’t have a ticket, you’re getting the opportunity to experience a great night’s entertainment (and get some food).
SATURDAY – could those who have very kindly volunteered to help run the raffle and sell programmmes please be at The Coro by 6.40pm. Doors open at 6.45 and, due to security, we will need ‘all hands on deck’.
