Swing Band last night
A huge WELL DONE! to the Swing Band for a great concert in Millom last night – they already want to book us for next May! I thought every single member of the band worked really hard, and I am very proud of each and every one of them.
A special mention to Rachael Ensoll for a fantastic debut with ‘Feeling Good’, and also to Jacob Egglestone for the performance of his new song ‘That’s Life’ (although he also receives a fine for a spectacular fluff! – along with some of the 1st altos! – but both were very amusing).

Music Grants
The Westmorland Music Trust has just released application forms for their music grants for the next academic year. These grants can be used to assist with tuition costs, purchase of an instrument or attendance at a specific course.
National Youth Jazz are back in Cumbria
Attached is info and an application form for a workshop with NYJO in Carlisle on 26th May. If anyone is Grade 5+ and in the Swing Band feel free to apply – it will be brilliant.
Could I ask all students who do apply to let me know so we can coordinate lifts where necessary (although Mrs B. has already eyed a shopping day in Carlisle!).
Swing and Wind Band uniforms
If you are not yet aware, the Wind Band uniforms are changing from the Summer Concert on Tuesday 10th July – this is due to the band getting a new sponsor (Pony Boy Printing). I will let everyone know once these shirts are online and ready for ordering, but EVERY member of the Wind Band must have one for that concert.
For students who are leaving (in Years 13 and 11) and do not wish to keep the new shirt, Friends of UVHS will buy the shirts for them provided they are given back after the concert (we will then keep them as spares.
The Swing Band perofrmance shirts are always bought by the Friends, and returned once a student leaves, but we would like every member of the Swing Band to buy a ‘supporter’s shirt’ once the new sponsorship logo is on it – this is a dark blue polo shirt with Wind and Swing Band sponsors on it as well as the school logo, Royal Marines logo and, on the back, the student’s name or nickname. These shirts are to be worn for travelling to and/or from Paris.
As said – once the shirts are ready, the link to the online shop will appear here.
