A2 Final Recitals

The final recitals for our (unusually very small) A2 group take place on Tuesday 12th in the Main Hall from 6pm – 7.20pm.  Performers are:

Ben Lewis (sax), Carla Miller (clarinet) & Michael McCluskey (cello & trumpet)

Entry is free and all are welcome to attend these three 15 minute recitals – Iwould especially encourage any student considering taking A Level Music and those already taking AS Music to attend, so you can see what is expected by the end of Year 13

Carousel – appeal!

Rehearsals went extremely well today for Carousel, so I hope that as many members of Performing Arts groups as possible manage to support it on Tues or Wed evening at The Coro  –  many, many hours have been put in over the past few months by both students and staff alike, so please try and get there, or at least promote it amongst family and friends (tickets can be purchased on the door both nights).

Also, if any of you have any unused bottles/chocolates/smellies etc. at home that you are able to donate for the raffle, we could do with a few for the 2 nights of performances. Please send anything in to me either tomorrow or on Tuesday.

Thank you – hope to see you on one of the two nights.

P.S.  Wind Band is on Thursday after school. Very important letter about the Marines visiti is coming out

URGENT!

Sorry for the very late notice, but due to arrangements for the Marines’ visit that have just been made today, I need to call an urgent meeting of The Friends on Tuesday 15th at 6.30pm to sort out some details and (hopefully) approve some actions.  All parents are welcome to attend.

Secondly, we are staging ‘Carousel’ on 22nd and 23rd March at The Coro and need 3 or 4 people on each night to sell raffle tickets and help with the door.  Please email me at  rbu@uvhs.uk  if you can assist.

Austria Tour – concert venues

I am happy to announce that three of our four concerts have now been confirmed for the Austria tour:

Saturday 16th July     Lakeside Bandstand, Sankt Martin am Tennengebirge @ 18:00     (as this is just up the road from our hotel, we may well spend the morning in the Berchtesgaden Salt Mines and the afternoon in the ‘activity park’ at Sankt Martin)

Sunday 17th July        Elisabeth-Park Bandstand, Zell am See @ 14:00                               (we might go here in the morning and get an early lunch prior to the concert. Possibly go into Salzburg late afternoon/evening for a bit of sightseeing and evening meal)

Monday 18th July       Lakeside Bandstand, Sankt Gilgen @ 17:00                                     (this is on the Wolfganfsee (Lake Wolfgang) so we may go to St Wolfgang im Salzkammergut in the morning and then get a boat up the lake to St Gilgen for the concert)

Tuesday 19th July       TBC  –  ? Salzburg Main Square                                                 (hopefully, we will spend the whole day in Salzburg)

Swing Band Concert – Water Yeat

WATER YEAT CONCERT

Poster for the concert is above. I am really sorry but I have had to reduce the band down to the Extended Combo due to the size of Water Yeat Hall.  Players need to be there at 7pm.

If you would like to go please ring for a ticket – audience members can bring their own refreshments (of any type!) as there are none available.

PS  –  FRIENDS  MEETING ON TUESDAY AT 6.30pm  –  all welcome

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all students/parents/families involved with music at UVHS.  I hope you all had a good Christmas and are well set for 2016.

A huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who performed and held buckets at Booths on 19th December – we raised £875 in the buckets during the 6.5 hours of performing  –  a fantastic effort on everybody’s part.

On Monday 22nd, the Chamber Choir and Sax Ensemble gave a fantastic afternoon concert at St Marys Hospice, and we handed over not only 100 mince pies and 4 bottles of sherry (kindly donated by Mr Miller and the Harrrell Lane Co-Op), but also the £536 raised in the collection following the Christmas Festival  –  which I hope everyone enjoyed.

Finally  –  the next Friends meeting will be on Tuesday 12th January at 6.30pm in the Meeting Room in A Block (old staffroom).  All are welcome to attend, with the main agenda item being the Marines concert in May  –  tickets will go on sale in February and there will be a ‘pre-sale day’ for parents to buy them.

Many thanks for all the support given in 2015 and here’s to a successful 2016.

Booths Music Day – collecting

We need to have 2 adults collecting at any one time throughout the day tomorrow.  Below is a rota for those who have already volunteered. If your name is not down but you can fill a gap please contact me or, failing that, just come along.

10am  Christine Spencer & ???

11am  Bev Lewis & ???

12       Kay Smith & Ben Lewis

1pm    ??? & ???

2pm    Sophie Wilson & Jane Wilson

3pm    Ian Wilson & Rebecca Thomas

All students are to wear Christmas jumpers and whatever they want as bottoms – if adults have Friends of UVHS Music t-shirts then that would be great, but don’t worry if you haven’t.

Finally, a huge ‘well done’  to all the students involved in the Christmas Festival on Tuesday and Prizegiving on Wednesday. Performances were superb and I am very proud of every single student’s efforts.  Thank you also to all parents for the incredible support that you always give – both to your children and to music at the school.

Merry Christmas!!!!
