VE Day Celebrations

As you are all aware, Friday marks the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, and a whole series of national celebrations had been planned. However, the current situation has meant that all organisations have had to change their plans. The 2 minutes’ silence at 11am will still take place, and I am asking as many brass players as possible (and other instrumentalists if they wish) to play The Last Post in front of or behind their house at 11.00am and at 11.02am Reveille. The link to the music is below; Ulverston Town Council has asked all players to be wearing either school or band uniform, and for a photo to be sent to Gill Benjamin at gill@ulverstontownband.co.uk so that an online ‘scrapbook’ can be put together. As many students doing this as possible would be brilliant.

In the afternoon, the Royal British Legion and other charities involved are now asking the public to hold their own ‘garden parties’ in the safety of their own garden/yard. If you would like some popular music from the WWII era playing, please see the attached Spotify playlist that we will be playing in Lowick on Friday afternoon during the ‘garden parties’ that will be taking place. The playlist includes Churchill’s infamous speech that can be played at 3pm (if you are not watching it indoors on the TV).

PLEASE … everyone get involved either making music in the morning and/or celebrating with music in the afternoon.

Online Instrumental Lessons

For those of you who receive instrumental/vocal lessons in school with our DBS-checked teachers: if you would like contact with your instrumental/vocal teacher and/or some online lessons, please email Mr Butler with a contact number for the instrumental teacher to arrange day/time/device (Skype/Zoom/Facetime) as well as parental permission for this to take place.

This Is AMAZING! (former UVHS music student)

Please, please, please watch this and be in absolute awe of former UVHS music students Aaron Stanton. Aaron is an acclaimed drummer who has toured all over the world in various band (as well as holding a residency at the Hotel de Paris in Monaco and being a guest performer on several luxury cruise liners). He was ‘bored’ so decided to compose a technical rhythm piece with a time signature of 19/16!!!!!!!!!

Please watch it, like it and share it!!

This Week’s ‘Clap for the NHS & Carers’

OK – a bit more of an upbeat number this week – as no national organisation has put out a request I’ve done ‘Walking On Sunshine’. It is a little more demanding as a melody as it goes quite high, so if anyone wants a version that is lower please email me and I will get alower version to you. The link to melody, harmony and bass parts is here:
