Due to the school production of Alice next week we do not have use of the Hall – therefore there is a sectional rehearsal foe ALL flutes, oboes, clarinets, saxophones and horns in the Drama Studio from 3.30pm-4.45pm. Please ensure that everyone attends unless in the production or on the geography trip.
Swing Band – full rehearsal tomorrow
We need EVERYONE at tomorrow’s Swing Band rehearsal – it is the last of the term (as it is the school production of Alice next week in the hall), and then we only have 1 more rehearsal before the Marines weekend on 26th/27th March.
Swing Band Shirts – now available
Swing Band shirts are now available to buy from Coniston Embroidery. All members of the band in yr12 or below need to have a shirt (it is fine to buy a larger size to grow into for younger players). It is the Supreme Poplin Short-Sleeved Shirt -there are two fits of shirt so please make sure you select the correct one: UVHS Music Department Bespoke Shop (conistonshop.com)
Little Big Band – cancelled tomorrow
Due to the final rehearsal of the school show before production week, the LBB rehearsal is cancelled tomorrow.
More Players Needed – Saturday
As you all know, we are hosting the Cumbria Music Hub’s ‘Big Band Day’ this coming Saturday. However, we are disappointed with the number of UVHS instrumentalists who have so far signed up. This will be a brilliant experience as it is with one of the country’s leading saxophonists and big band leaders – Andy Scott. Any student playing any instrument beyond grade 3 standard is welcome to attend (it is £10 each) and will get a lot out of it from both a playing and composing perspective. In particular, all of our sax players & clarinettists should attend as well as those currently studying (or wishing to study) GCSE and/or A Level.
Please, please, please … if you can attend do. Sign up here: https://buff.ly/49GFjAk
Royal Marines Social – 26th April
On 26th April the Swing Band will be taking to the stage at The Coro alongside the Royal Marines Dance Band for our annual social event. This informal gig will not be publicised beyond the Music Dept and tickets are only available from the Music Dept office.
As in the past, door open at 7.15pm and seating is unreserved cabaret-style. Swing Band will play from 7.30pm-8.30pm and the Marines from 9pm – 10.45pm. The evening will finish at 11pm. The ticket includes pie’n’peas supper (courtesy of Del.ish) with a choice of pies including vegetarian and gluten free – please specify if you would like gluten-free this when buying tickets.
Tickets are £10 each and on sale from Wednesday 6th March. Swing Band members do not need a ticket but will still be fed.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL SWING BAND MEMBERS MUST BE UNDER THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A PARENT OR NAMED OTHER RESPONSIBLE ADULT DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE EVENT, AND NORMAL ALCOHOL LAWS WILL BE IN PLACE AND UPHELD BY THE CORO.

Reminder – Wind Band Cancelled Tomorrow
A reminder that, due to the A Level Theatre Studies performance exam taking place tomorrow afternoon, Wind Band is cancelled. The next rehearsal is therefore on Monday 11th March.
Tickets are going well for the concert with the Royal Marines on Saturday 27th April – still some available from The Coro: UVHS Wind Band in Concert with the Royal Marines – The Coro .
Swing Band – help needed
If anyone can get to Greenodd by 6.30 to help unload the van and get all the gear into the Hall it would be greatly appreciated – many thanks.
Big Band Day @ UVHS with Andy Scott
We are delighted to be welcoming professional jazz saxophonist and composer, Andy Scott, to UVHS on Saturday 16th March for a Big Band Day. Details are below and I would encourage all members of the bands who can attend to do so – he is a brilliant educator and musician. Although the workshop is open to all 11-18 year-olds in the region (playing at grade 3+ standard) I expect a large proportion of attendees to be our own, but it is a great chance to showcase the school bands to other students from other schools and possibly promote 6th form music here, if not lower down the school as well. 16 March: Ulverston Victoria High School
“I’m looking forward to working with some of the young musicians in Cumbria for a day. Everyone who plays an instrument is welcome. We’ll make music together, we’ll improvise, swap ideas and have some fun. Music is about listening and being part of a team, let’s enjoy ourselves.
For any instrumentalists grade 3+ aged 10-18.
