Barrow Schools Inter Cricket Boys Competition

On the 18th March an UVHS team ventured down to compete against Furness Academy and Millom School in this annual competition. Inter Cricket is a fast and frantic 8 player per team game, adapted to be played indoor, uses a soft ball and much less protective equipment than ordinary cricket. It bridges the gap between kwik cricket played in primary school and full hard ball cricket played at both school and clubs.
Our team was a mixture of pupils from within Years 7 and 8. The boys had practiced after school for some weeks before, but unfortunately for us, all our hard work and efforts didn’t bring us any silverware on this occasion, as UVHS came up against 2 teams from Millom School and a Yr 8 team from Furness Academy who were simply stronger than UVHS on the day.
The bright part for UVHS is that we had a number of Year 7 boys in the team who have gained in the understanding of how the game is played indoors and will have gained in experience for next year’s competition. Across the summer term UVHS will be entered into three different cricket cup knockout competitions across Years 7 – 10 and will have a number of other fixtures arranged against different schools from the area, with our home games being played at Ulverston Cricket Club. Well done boys, we just need to keep practicing.
