John Wyndham’s classic 1957 take on alien invasion is available for free for three weeks via this link.  The novel is dramatised in three 30-minute episodes.

So what’s the fuss about?  Why should you listen to it?

Well, as you can see, the novel has been filmed under the title ‘Village of the Damned’:  twice in fact, in 1960 and 1995.  The latest version was directed by hour metro John Carpenter and starred Kirsty Alley and Christopher Reeve (the original Superman) as the main grown-ups in the classic British chiller.  One of the things I love about Wyndham’s work is the very British feel to this and other novels such as The Day of the Triffids.

And the story’s premise?  A sleepy English village is disturbed by a strange incident which renders everyone unconscious.  This is only the prelude to a terrifying episode: within weeks, all the women affected find themselves simultaneously pregnant, and the 9-month fuse on a ticking time bomb is lit …
