Borderlines 2016: the third Carlisle Book Festival

borderlines_logo“October 2016 sees the return of Borderlines Carlisle Book Festival to this ancient Cumbrian city for a third outing. A festival for readers and writers, with talks, poetry and workshops held in 4 venues in the city centre, including the Cathedral.”

So, who’s going to be there – apart from me, obviously?

You can find out more about the festival by clicking here, but here are some of the ‘headliners’ that I would be interested in going to see:

  • Alan Johnson (the former postman who rose to the senior ranks of the Labour Party)
  • Ben Crystal (Shakespeare’s theatre and original pronunciation – really interesting, and amusing)
  • David Crystal (one of Miss Smith’s – and my – heroes, talks about the importance of speaking confidently in public)
  • Karen Lloyd (bestselling local author of  The Gathering Tide, a travel book focussing on Morecambe Bay)
  • Alexander McCall Smith (No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, 44 Scotland Street)
  • Val McDermid (bestselling crime writer)
  • Jimmy McGovern (TV scriptwriter for gritty classics such as Cracker, Hillsborough, The Accused)
  • Bob Wilson (workshop on Children’s writing and illustration)
