National Youth Jazz are back in Cumbria

Attached is info and an application form for a workshop with NYJO in Carlisle on 26th May. If anyone is Grade 5+ and in the Swing Band feel free to apply – it will be brilliant.

Could I ask all students who do apply to let me know so we can coordinate lifts where necessary (although Mrs B.  has already eyed a shopping day in Carlisle!).

Swing and Wind Band uniforms

If you are not yet aware, the Wind Band uniforms are changing from the Summer Concert on Tuesday 10th July  –  this is due to the band getting a new sponsor (Pony Boy Printing). I will let everyone know once these shirts are online and ready for ordering, but EVERY member of the Wind Band must have one for that concert.

For students who are leaving (in Years 13 and 11) and do not wish to keep the new shirt, Friends of UVHS will buy the shirts for them provided they are given back after the concert (we will then keep them as spares.

The Swing Band perofrmance shirts are always bought by the Friends, and returned once a student leaves, but we would like every member of the Swing Band to buy a ‘supporter’s shirt’ once the new sponsorship logo is on it  –  this is a dark blue polo shirt with Wind and Swing Band sponsors on it as well as the school logo, Royal Marines logo and, on the back, the student’s name or nickname.  These shirts are to be worn for travelling to and/or from Paris.

As said – once the shirts are ready, the link to the online shop will appear here.

Paris and Italy Tours

A reminder that the final payment of £100 for the Swing Band tour to Paris is due by Tuesday 1st May – every student’s account must be paid up in full by that time.

The first full payment of £110 for the 2019 Wind Band tour to Italy is also due by Monday 30th April –  however, this is only an advisory date to help families spread the cost of the tour and plan expenditure (the full £600 must be in by 1st May, 2019).

If there are any problems with either of the above please contact Mr Butler as soon as possible – rbu@uvhs.uk

REMINDER – Swing Band Concert – Sat 21st April

A reminder that the FULL Swing Band have a concert next Saturday (21st) at Lower Holker Village Hall (in Cark), starting at 7.30pm.

Students will need to be there (in full uniform) by 7pm in order to set up and sort out their pads.

The set list is likely to be exactly the same as the Grange concert last month, but this is always a top venue  to play (despite its small size)  due to the ‘lively’ audience, and it is most definitely an experience for players and audience alike!!

A Level Recitals

This year’s A Level recitals will be held on Wednesday 18th April from 6pm-7.45pm in the Main Hall. The students performing will be:

Leah Greaves – voice

David Griffiths – trumpet

Bethany Higginson – voice

Ethan Kyme – piano

Tom Maddock – bass guitar

Eden Stoller – piano

Everyone is welcome to attend (the exam rules stipulate that an audience must be present). Any student either currently taking, or considering taking, music at A Level is encouraged to come along so that they are aware of the performance demands of the course
