Moky Fit!

Before the year 11 pupils started their GCSE exams we thought we would give them something different in PE to take their mind of the stress of exams…MOKY FIT!

Moky Fit is an aerobics based exercise class that uses current music and dance actions. The year 11 pupils did this for 3 weeks and they were fantastic, and it was great to see them enjoying themselves at a stressful time. Well done year 11 and thank you Clare Tonkin for delivering the sessions!

Sport Relief week

As part of a weeks’ worth of Sport Relief activities and events, UVHS had a visit from a professional athlete. Stephanie Inglis competed for Scotland in the women’s 57 kg event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won a silver medal in Judoka.

This was a fantastic experience for the pupils to hear Stephaine’s story and understand what it takes to become a professional athlete. The pupils listened to a presentation where Stephanie explained her training schedule, event history and how she overcame a tragic motorbike accident. The pupils were keen with questions gained an insight into her sporting life, then the hard work really began as Stephanie put the pupils through their paces in her training circuit. As a reward for their efforts pupils got to take pictures with her silver commonwealth medal, finished off with a signed poster.

Brewery Dance Platform

On Tuesday 20th March the UVHS Dance team performed at the Brewery dance platform in Kendal. This was a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to showcase their talents on a professional stage.
The pupils had been working on a group piece with the stimulus ‘the strength of the pack is the wolf and the strength of the wolf is the pack’. The piece aimed to show a pack of wolfs fighting to become the pack leader, and it did just that.

The pupils were outstanding and performed the piece brilliantly!
They should be extremely proud of their efforts, well done.

UVHS Dance Platform

On February the 6th,7th and 8th,  UVHS hosted the Dance Platform. This is a fantastic event where local high schools and primary schools in the area get to showcase their talent. The UVHS dance team took part in this event with 9 pieces all together, spread out across the three nights.

The pupils were fantastic and performed superbly every night, they should be extremely proud of their efforts. One of the group pieces will be performed at the Brewery Arts Dance Platform on the 20th of March so watch this space!

Phoenix Dance Company workshop!

Not only did the pupils get to watch the piece live, but on Monday 5th March they took part in a professional dance workshop. The workshop was led by the company dancer Antonio who for 3 hours put the pupils through their paces! The workshop was fantastic and the pupils worked so hard learning the choreography from Shadows. A massive thank you to Phoenix Dance Company for an amazing workshop, that was not only enjoyed by all but will help the pupils studying GCSE Dance next year.

Dance trip to watch Phoenix Dance Company

On the 20th of February we took 30 pupils to the Theatre by the Lake to watch Phoenix Dance Company perform Shadows. Shadows is one of the pieces studied on the GCSE Dance syllabus so it was fantastic for the pupils to see it performed live!  Pupils enjoyed the performance and were looking forward to learning the piece in the dance workshop.
