On February the 6th,7th and 8th, UVHS hosted the Dance Platform. This is a fantastic event where local high schools and primary schools in the area get to showcase their talent. The UVHS dance team took part in this event with 9 pieces all together, spread out across the three nights.
The pupils were fantastic and performed superbly every night, they should be extremely proud of their efforts. One of the group pieces will be performed at the Brewery Arts Dance Platform on the 20th of March so watch this space!
Not only did the pupils get to watch the piece live, but on Monday 5th March they took part in a professional dance workshop. The workshop was led by the company dancer Antonio who for 3 hours put the pupils through their paces! The workshop was fantastic and the pupils worked so hard learning the choreography from Shadows. A massive thank you to Phoenix Dance Company for an amazing workshop, that was not only enjoyed by all but will help the pupils studying GCSE Dance next year.
On the 20th of February we took 30 pupils to the Theatre by the Lake to watch Phoenix Dance Company perform Shadows. Shadows is one of the pieces studied on the GCSE Dance syllabus so it was fantastic for the pupils to see it performed live! Pupils enjoyed the performance and were looking forward to learning the piece in the dance workshop.
Pupils have been given the opportunity to represent school as a Sports Ambassador. A Sports Ambassador is someone who is an excellent role model not only in sport but around school. Someone who would like to develop leadership skills and further develop their coaching abilities.
We have had over 90 pupils from year 7,8 and 9 apply to become a Sports Ambassador and after much discussion these are our UVHS Sports Ambassadors!
Well done to all the applicants and a massive well done to the UVHS sports ambassadors!
Watch this space to get the update on sports relief week with the sports ambassadors hosting some fundraising challenges!
The Year 10 Rugby League team travelled up the A595 to Cleator Moor to play their County Semi-Final against a very committed West Lakes Academy team. It’s not the best way to prepare for any game by having to travel up that road but we got there and after a brief warm-up settled into the game well. However, after a first half that started so well for us, we found ourselves 8-0 down at half time. The second half started the same way as the first with the UVHS boys trying to claw their way back into the game, but mistakes started to creep into our play by trying to force the game which gifted the West Lakes Academy team two soft tries. Our run came to an end at 18-0. The boys really tried hard on an afternoon when we deserved more from the game than we got.
The Year 7 girls have arrived in droves since the start of the spring term to take part in school cricket practices, which was great to see and most have improved their skills. It was just a shame that the U13 Lady Taverner’s Barrow Schools girls comp arranged for early February was reduced to a two school best of 3 game comp, with UVHS taking on Furness Academy. It was the first time our Year 7 team had played indoor cricket and up against a mostly Year 8 Furness Academy team, they acquitted themselves really well. The first game resulted in a 20 run loss and although the girls settled and played some much better cricket in the second game, another 20 run loss was the result. The girls should be really please with their efforts and with a bit more practice and a year under the belts, hopefully we can come out on top next year.
On Monday 4th December year 7 girls played a football match against Our Ladies school from Preston as part of the schools cup competition. It was a 7 a-side match playing 25 minutes each way. In the first half the team were winning 3-0 till the last few seconds when Our Ladies scored. After Mr Quints team talk about spacing the team entered the pitch for the second half.
A total of 8 goals were scored in the second half starting with UVHS scoring taking it to 4-1, but then Our Ladies came firing back with two goals being scored. The pressure was building as they were now only one goal away from drawing with us!
Thankfully Rubie S scored a brilliant goal in the top corner with Macy B scoring soon after. Now it was 6-3, but that did not stop them they came back scoring 2 more goals!
Millie R scored a final goal in the last minute closing the match with a 7-5 win to UVHS.
A massive well done to the team!

Amazing effort with fantastic results!
All these pupils came in the top 8 and have therefore been selected to represent Furness Schools cross country team in January at Cartmel race course.
Well done UVHS! Pictures to follow…
Monday 27th November the year 7and 8 netball teams had a fixture against St Bernards.
The year 7 team were first to play and the girls got off to a slow start with St Bernards scoring two in the first 2 minutes! Lucy G made some excellent passes and moved into space creating movement down the court. Heidi M scored soon after with the score at half time 3-1 to St Bernards.
After a team talk from the captain the team decided to focus on short sharp passes ensuring they have possession. This worked brilliantly with the team scoring two in the first minute of the second half making the score 3 all. Evie P made some fantastic interceptions at GK keeping the ball from the GS. With 2 minutes left the team were driving forward, passing it to Phoebe making it 4-3. The game ended in a 5-3 win to UVHS with Heidi scoring for the 4th time securing the win!
Fantastic effort and determination from the year 7 team!
The year 8 team were next to play and they got off to a flying start with Amelia P scoring 5 in the first half! The marking was a definite strong point with all players jumping and marking every ball. The team made some fantastic passes into the goal circle leaving Georgia S to finish off the shot. The final score was 13-3 a great win for UVHS.
On Tuesday 14th Novemeber I took 3 netball teams down to Dowdales to play their 3 year 7 netball teams.
The girls were fantastic and I was extremley impressed with the enthusiasum of all three teams. The first team drew 1-1 and played really well, making some great tactical decisions and marking was a real strong point. Teigan S got player of the match for excellent movement around the goal circle.
The second team, coached by Rebecca won their game 1-0. This was the first fixture the second team have played and they were fantastic! Rebecca was impressed with the teams short passes to keep posession. Player of the match was Ellie J and Caitlin H.
Finally the third team coached by Dr Wilkin unfortunatley lost 3-1. The team used short passes well in the game and this was a good chance for the team to get used to playing with each other. Dr Wilkins player of the match was Shannon B for excellent movement!
Well done all teams!
