Seven UVHS pupils attended Kendal GC during the Easter Holidays to take part in the Cumbria Schools Golf Championships.
Sixth form pupil Natasha Slater, fresh from her top 3 finish at the Scottish Girls Golf Championships a week earlier won the girls competition with a 72 (gross). This score was 3 better than any other player in the field which was an excellent effort of a cold and blustery day. On the boys side Sixth form pupil David Boardman and Yr 9 pupil Bradley Fell finished 6th & 7th respectively with scores of 82 (gross). We also entered 2 teams into the 3 player team competition on the day, with the best 2 nett scores from 3 to count. Our team of Luke Quint, Sam Beddoes & Ethan Cole came in one shot better that the rest to qualify for the English Schools National Team Championships in July. Our other team of David Boardman, Bradley Fell & Callum McDougall finished 3rd.
With this Cumbria Golf Championship not having run for a decade, England Golf have stepped in to ensure the game of golf at school level within specific areas of the nation is reborn and will hopefully continue as the years progress with further individual and team comps organised within Cumbria.
