The annual UVHS Year 5/6 primary Tag Rugby Festival took place on Wednesday April 5. Seven local primary schools (Croftlands, Sir John Barrow, St Mary’s, Burlington, Pennington, Pennybridge and Low Furness) entered the festival this year with Low Furness, Pennington and Croftlands entering two teams. The main aim of the festival being development and enjoyment, whilst improving skills for both Rugby Union and Rugby league as the games progressed. The festivals format was a 7 game round robin and each team consisted of 10 pupils. Some very good Tag Rugby was played across the afternoon and it was easy to see by the standard displayed that all schools had practiced hard prior to the festival taking place. A group of 25 UVHS year 10 Sports Leaders assisted in the running of this festival taking on the roles of referee, time keeping and scoring. They all did a fantastic job and without their assistance these sporting festivals simply would not be able to take place. A big thank you must also go to the Primary Sports Co-ordinators for seeing the benefit in bringing their pupils to play in these festivals.
