U15 Barrow Schools Girls Lady Taverners Indoor Cricket Champions

On Thursday February 11 the UVHS U15 girls indoor cricket team travelled down to Furness College to participate in the area Lady Taverners Indoor Cricket Competition.  Most of the girls had played previously and have had great success for the school over previous years, so expectations were high once again.

Our first game was against an old foe in Furness Academy.  The Furness Academy staff and pupils like UVHS have been committed to girls cricket for a number of years and the game was played in the right spirit and demonstrated good all-round skills from both sets of players.  We started well scoring 101 for 1 from our 8 overs with Megan.S, Ameyah.H & Megan. R all retiring for 20.  Holly.P also pitched in with a good 17.  We then managed to keep Furness Academy to 83 for 6 from their 8 overs.  Holly.P, Megan.S and Ellie B all in the wickets.

Our second group game was against a good Chetwynde School team.  Again we batted first and posted 87 for 4.  Megan.S, Ameyah.H and Megan. R again batted well to retire on 20.  We then hit our straps with the  ball to bowl Chetwynde out for 22.  Holly.P, Megan.S, Ameyah.H and Georgina.M all took wickets.

Winning our 2 games put us into the final again against Furness Academy who got the better of Chetwynde school in their group game.  Our girls were confident and as reigning U15 county champions wanted another shot at the title this year.  We batted first again scoring 94/2 with Megan.S, Ameyah.H, Georgina.M and Holly.P all scoring runs.  Furness Academy then did their best and batted well but fell just 14 runs short of our total at 80 for 6.  Megan.S, Georgina.M and Ellie B ensuring wickets fell regularly to win another area title for UVHS.

Great effort girls

2016 Boys U13 Barrow Schools Indoor Cricket Champions

On Tuesday 2nd February, UVHS U/13 cricket squad went to Furness College to play for a spot at the county indoor cricket competition in March. The first match was against Dowdales. Dowdales put up a good battle, but UVHS won their first game. The score ended up 57-6 Dowdales, 59-6 UVHS. The next game was UVHS versus Chetwynde. After a poor batting performance from UVHS, Chetwynde capitalised and won. The scores finished as UVHS 56-All out and Chetwynde 57-3.

After a short break UVHS played Walney and secured another win in an impressive fashion. Walney were all out for 31 and UVHS finished with the score of 69-6. That meant that UVHS claimed second spot.

After another short break, UVHS played Dowdales in the semi-final. It was another close game between the two sides but UVHS edged a win. The game finished Dowdales 54-6, UVHS 55-6. This meant that UVHS had progressed to the final. They played Chetwynde in the final and this time it was played on a full pitch (indoor). With a fantastic performance from the whole team we won! The final score was Chetwynde 79-3, UVHS 107-2. We got medals and a trophy for the school and advanced to Penrith for the County final.
